Dolomite is a limestone rock composed of calcium and magnesium carbonate.
Dolomite is rarely found in modern sedimentary environments, but dolomites are very common among rocks. They can be found geographically extensively and at depths of hundreds of thousands of meters. Most dolomite-rich rocks were originally deposited as calcium carbonate muds that were altered by magnesium-rich water, leading to the formation of dolomite.
When talking about a mixture of calcium and magnesium in the form of carbonates, the absorption of one mineral favors the absorption of the other. These minerals are essential for maintaining healthy bones and joints, helping to prevent osteoporosis and strengthening bones and teeth. Furthermore, calcium promotes muscle contraction, and magnesium helps relax them, hence its recognized role in the cardiac system.
