Evening primrose oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of Oenothera bieennis. Also known as Primrose, it is a very popular plant in the therapy of female disorders.
It can also be easily found as an ornamental in public and private gardens for its beautiful flowers that only open at night.
Characteristic properties:
Texture : Thick green liquid. Color : Intense yellow to greenish. Smell : Sweet reminiscent of walnut.
We can see how linoleic acid stands out and within this group Gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) stands out.
These essential fatty acids are the reason why it is used as a dietary and naturopathy supplement, since GLA has been seen to have anti-inflammatory properties and benefits at the level of brain function.
Hormonal regulating and antihypertensive properties are also attributed to it, although there are no definitive studies on these activities.
